Hattiesburg's Public Transportation System

I would like to inform the residents of Hattiesburg to petition to the city of Hattiesburg into persuading them to make a vote to put more tax dollars towards public transportation. Hattiesburg is a growing city that needs to recognize it has a terrible public transportation system. The transit system used in Hattiesburg consist of four buses that rotate hourly though out specific areas from 6:00am to 6:30 pm http://www.hattiesburgms.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=349&Itemid=128 . The transit system needs to be recognized for its poor ability to get people to their destination, in this most dyer time of need. With the economy the way it has been people need better public transportation. Also with continuous drunk driving incidents, public transportation would definitely help lower those problems in Hattiesburg.

Along with crises the U.S. and our economy has been going through, the public transit systems is in need. I believe people need a transit system they can use realistically. People of Hattiesburg with money and transportation issues would definitely benefit from a much better transit system. With the current way the transit system works I do not understand how anyone could use it to get to their jobs. It seems a bit ridiculous to think that four buses that rotate through certain spots in Hattiesburg hourly can get people to their job and back.

I also believe with the drinking and driving problem, that has always been a constant in Hattiesburg, will benefit from a better transit system. The alleviation of drinking and driving would be so great for the city of Hattiesburg. If public transportation systems were more widely available for people during the hours in which bars and clubs were open then drinking and driving would probably be less of a factor for Hattiesburg.

In my editorial I am trying to inform the people of Hattiesburg of its poor public transportation system. I believe the transportation system needs to be noticed and recognized as a problem for Hattiesburg. The transit system needs some more funding to better serve the needs of the people in this city. Due to the increasing size of this city more buses and routes are needed to update the transit system, where it suits modern times. Some of the problems that I have seen because of the transit system are the inability to get to and from destinations in a timely manner, and the huge drinking and driving problem in this city. I feel that if the residents in Hattiesburg knew more about the transit system, or lack thereof, they would probably be interested in trying to resolve this issue. I am hoping to inform them of this ongoing problem, and to persuade them to push for more of their tax dollars to go towards helping the cause. I would also like to inform them of the fact that having better public transportation would help them to cut back on their personal expenses. Having better public transportation would give them more money in their pockets because they will not be spending as much on gas and automobile costs. I believe that modifying the transit system would solve people’s problems in Hattiesburg. The ending result that I hope to achieve is that the city of Hattiesburg will recognize the problems within their transit system, and look for ways to update it.
